29 days until the America’s Cup starts! Land Rover BAR training on their America’s Cup Class catamaran ‘R1’, fast. The America’s Cup, an international yacht sailing competition, represents the world’s oldest sporting trophy, backed by 166 years of sailing tradition. The design of the America’s Cup boat is a complex process at the intersection of several disciplines: marine hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, structural mechanics, advanced composites, and optimisation theory. The fluid dynamics involved in the design is handled reliably by computational methods, reducing the need for extensive tank and wind tunnel testing.
At Cape Horn Engineering, we are proud to work with Land Rover BAR, the British Challenger for the 35th America’s Cup, on CFD analysis for design performance prediction and development.
