Ericsson 4 breaks the 24 hour distance monohull speed record and wins the first leg of the 2008/2009 Volvo Ocean Race

The previous title holder had been ABN AMRO TWO with 562.96 nm, set at an average speed of 23.45 kts. Ericsson 4 set the new 596.6 nm record at an average speed of 24.85 kts, 6% faster than the previous record.
