Conrad C-140 Superyacht
Cape Horn Engineering are very proud to have been involved in this exciting project. A new benchmark of performance flybridge sailing yachts with an innovative contemporary semi-custom line has been created by internationally renowned, German yacht designer Frank Neubelt and German Yacht Couture Project Agency.
These vessels are purposefully designed for a new generation of passionate and performance-oriented owners, offering luxury and comfort at Conrad’s renowned standard of excellence, combined with cutting-edge sailing performance and sustainable engineering. The aim of the project is to create a world cruiser that meets the highest standards without compromise.
Cape Horn Engineering was responsible for running the hydrodynamic CFD simulations that were used as inputs for the Velocity Prediction Program by North Sails Design Services. An extensive R&D campaign to find the best balance between comfort and performance was performed. The study consisted of 117 simulations of the fully appended vessel, varying the sailing conditions such as heel, yaw and rudder angles.
The C-140 Sailing Superyacht is 140 feet in length (43m) and will be the first flybridge performance sailing yacht in this size with a special indoor-outdoor saloon and special styled and engineered lightweight aluminium hull. The owners requested a high performance hull, supported by hybrid-powered retractable 360 degrees pitch-propulsion with two high aspect-ratio span-rudders and a telescopic lifting keel fin, providing a draft of 3.8 – 6.0m. The guaranteed engine cruising speed of 12 knots even in strong sea conditions is impressive.
Construction at Conrad Shipyard in Gdansk, Poland is due for completion in 2027.
